La Fundación Sprint lanza el 1Million Project con el fin de proporcionar dispositivos y servicio gratuito de internet para estudiantes en estado de desigualdad.

¿Sabía que 5 millones de familias estadounidenses con niños en edad escolar no cuentan con el acceso a banda ancha en sus hogares? El 1Million Project es una iniciativa plurianual de la Fundación Sprint para ofrecer gratuitamente dispositivos y servicio móvil de alta velocidad para un millón de estudiantes de secundaria estadounidenses de escasos recursos carentes de un servicio de internet seguro en sus hogares.

Some people think kids today are all about selfies. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards says, think again. This nationwide awards program, a collaborative effort by The National Association of Secondary School Principals and Prudential Financial, Inc., honors students in grades 5-12 for making meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service.

CONSUMERS URGED TO ONLY USE CORDLESS PRODUCTS WHERE CHILDREN ARE PRESENT

The Window Covering Safety Council (WCSC) and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) are urging consumers to check their window coverings for exposed or dangling cords which can pose a strangulation hazard to infants and young children. WCSC, CPSC and safety experts strongly recommend that only cordless window coverings or window coverings with inaccessible cords be used in homes with young children.

This PSA Campaign consists of videos titled “Empowerment,” “A Changing World,” and “What Is Success?” In the PSA, both women and men volunteers speak about their experiences at JA, taking on an emotional and heartfelt approach to inspire people to volunteer and become a mentor. One states, “You volunteer… get the chance to change a life or two… I’d call that success.”

Millones de niños en los Estados Unidos no tienen cobertura médica. Millions of children in the United States don’t have health coverage. As a result, it may be difficult or impossible for them to get the routine preventive care that keeps them healthy or access to the care they need if they get sick or injured. But, the majority of the nation’s uninsured children are eligible for free or low-cost health coverage through their state Medicaid or Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). They can apply for the comprehensive benefits these programs provide at any time, and now the enrollment process is faster.

Two new settlements, totaling $1.2 billion have been reached with Halliburton and Transocean over the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.  People and/or businesses across the Gulf Coast region may be eligible for payments from these settlements pending in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Epilepsy is much more common than people think – an estimated 1 in 26 people in the U.S. will develop the condition in their lifetime.[i] It is more prevalent than multiple sclerosis, autism spectrum disorders, Parkinson’s disease, and cerebral palsy combined1, yet awareness and understanding of epilepsy is very low and far too often, people are afraid to talk about it. Unfortunately, this lack of public understanding leads to fear and misunderstanding about the condition, creating barriers to education and employment, and also making those diagnosed feel isolated and alone.
