Two-Time Emmy and Tony Award-Winning Actress Judith Light Partners with the National Council on Aging on Flu + You Public Service Announcement To Educate People 65 and Older about Flu and Vaccine Options
Two-time Emmy and Tony award-winning actress Judith Light, best known for her roles on Dallas, Ugly Betty, Who’s the Boss? and appearing this fall in Amazon Studio’s Transparent, has teamed up with the National Council on Aging (NCOA) to raise awareness about the importance of annual flu vaccinations. The flu can be severe and life-threatening, especially for older adults. The immune system weakens with age, which makes it harder to fight disease.[i] Each year in the United States, nine out of 10 flu-related deaths and more than six out of 10 flu-related hospital stays occur in people 65 years of age and older.[ii]
The NCOA’s Flu + You program aims to help protect older adults from the flu by educating adults 65 years of age and older about the dangers of the flu, the importance of annual vaccination, and available vaccine options.
The enclosed Public Service Announcement (PSA) features Light in the unexpected situation of having to prove she’s 65 as she attempts to get a flu vaccine made specifically for people her age. This PSA educates the public about the increased risk of flu and flu-related complications in adults 65 years of age and older and the importance of getting an annual flu vaccine.
To help the National Council on Aging (NCOA) raise public awareness about the importance of getting an annual flu vaccine, especially for people 65 years of age and older, please consider airing this PSA in your programming and give it full run of schedule through May 2015.
The National Council on Aging (NCOA) is the nation’s leading nonprofit service and advocacy organization representing older adults and the community organizations that serve them.
