Give Blood and Give the Gift of Life

DONATING BLOOD IS CRITICAL TO HELPING PATIENTS THROUGHOUT THE NEW YEAR AND BEYOND

Vitalant Impossible Choices :30s PSA

Every two seconds a patient in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion, but unfortunately, blood shortages are becoming more frequent. Though most of the population is eligible to donate blood, only about 3% currently do. If not enough blood is available, doctors may have to make impossible choices of who gets a lifesaving blood transfusion and who must wait.

Nonprofit blood services provider Vitalant is urging all eligible donors to schedule a blood donation appointment to ensure patients don’t have to wait for their lifesaving treatments. It takes donors of all blood types to meet all patients’ needs. Type O blood and platelets are most urgently needed. Type O can be used for most of the population and platelets, which are critical in helping stop bleeding, must be used within a week of donation. There is no waiting period to donate after receiving an FDA authorized COVID-19 vaccine or seasonal flu shot.

The Impossible Choices PSA campaign aims to communicate the urgency of the need for blood donations and compel individuals to take the next step by making an appointment to give with nonprofit blood services provider Vitalant.

The ‘Impossible Choices’ campaign includes one 30-second television and radio Public Service Announcement (PSA) and one 15-second TV and radio spot. The PSAs will run until May 31, 2023.
