Prudential Spirit of Community Awards :60 PSA

Some people think kids today are all about selfies. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards says, think again. This nationwide awards program, a collaborative effort by The National Association of Secondary School Principals and Prudential Financial, Inc., honors students in grades 5-12 for making meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service. Over the past 22 years, the program has honored more than 120,000 young volunteers at the local, state and national level.

Through Nov. 7, 2017, The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards is looking for the top youth volunteers of the year in each U.S. state and the District of Columbia. A series of PSAs, in :60, :30 and :15-second lengths, feature the stories of students honored for their outstanding volunteer service. These PSAs feature honorees like Kenan, a middle schooler who’s been helping the homeless for years. He coordinates quarterly meals at shelter kitchens, and ran an innovative cereal collection drive at school that set a Guinness World Record for largest cardboard box mosaic.

Applications for 2018 awards opened at the beginning of the school year, and state-level honors will be announced in early February. Students at every middle level and high school in the country are encouraged to apply if they’ve volunteered in the past year.
